Under the patronage of the President of Al-Hamdaniya University, Prof. Dr. Nishat Mubarak Sliwa, and supervised by the Acting Dean of the College of Computer Science and Informatics, the College Library Unit, in cooperation with the Continuing Education Unit, organized a scientific workshop entitled “Afforestation in Iraq: A Pillar for Combating Desertification and Promoting Environmental Sustainability – Mosul as a Model.”


The workshop was delivered by Assistant Lecturer Abdullah Nazim Ali, who discussed the importance of afforestation as one of the effective solutions to address desertification and environmental changes. He highlighted the role of trees in improving the environment, reducing land degradation, and enhancing ecological balance.


The lecturer also reviewed the current state of afforestation in the city of Mosul, emphasizing the importance of adopting environmental initiatives and projects that contribute to increasing green spaces and supporting efforts aimed at achieving environmental sustainability. He also stressed the need to raise community awareness about the importance of protecting the environment and natural resources.


The workshop was held in conjunction with the National Afforestation Day, aiming to highlight the importance of spreading the culture of tree planting, expanding green areas, and promoting environmental awareness among students and the community, in a way that supports efforts to combat desertification and achieve environmental sustainability.
